And now, for the pie crust recipe!

Mom’s Pie Crust

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1-1/2 tsp. salt

½ cup canola oil

5 Tbs. cold water

Directions:

Sift together flour and salt. Pour oil and cold water into measuring cup (do not stir). Add all at once to the flour mixture. Stir lightly with fork. Form into 2 balls; flatten dough slightly. Roll each between 12-inch squared of waxed paper. (First dampen the table slightly so paper won’t slip.) When dough is rolled in a circle to edges of paper, it will be the right thickness. Peel off top sheet of waxed paper and fit dough, paper side up, into pie plate. Remove paper. Finish pie shell following directions for single or double crust pies. Makes enough pastry for one 8 or 9 inch double-crust pie.

An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving

Based on a short story by the acclaimed author of Little Women comes a holiday story of family and forgiveness. Recently widowed Mary Bassett (Helene Joy) and her three children have hit difficult times on their farm. This summer at the International Christian Retail Show, I found these pictures hanging on a black wall at a booth. They were stunning--gorgeous, textured art with Scripture or inspirational sayings, framed simply but beautifully.

With the sepia coloring and espresso frames, they're the perfect gift/decor item to feature in the fall! They're not on the online store yet, but feel free to call for details if you're not in the area, and we'd be glad to ship one to you.

The artwork is by photographer and graphic artist Julie Chen, who wanted to bring Scripture to life in her own home. The pictures are custom framed by Beechdale Frames, located in Pennsylvania.

The wall art comes in two sizes -- 8x10 and 12x18. We currently have eight styles in stock, featuring Jeremiah 29:11, Zephaniah 3:17, The Fruits of the Spirit, The Love Chapter, and more!

Bookstore Blog Relaunch!

Welcome to Hobe Sound Christian Bookstore's blog relaunch! We're back open with a new name and a list of things we want to do here.

This month ushers in a season of thankfulness. Though this year was tough with the loss of our beloved manager*, we have so much to be thankful for! One big blessing was being able to purchase furnishings for the store from our local Borders. We now have nearly floor-to-ceiling shelving along the back wall, a rolling ladder, and a few additional display pieces. If you haven't seen the changes, now is a great time to come visit!

If you can't stop by in person, we'd still love to enjoy your company! Wherever you are--while you're enjoying the snow or fall colors or Florida rainstorms--follow our cozy reading nook for book reviews, featured products, community highlights, and more! We'd love for you to offer suggestions, your own reviews, and participate in the occasional polls we'll post in the sidebar. This is your bookstore, and we're thankful for YOU!
